James E. Metz, D.D.S.

General Dentist

Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine

Dr. James E. Metz is a 40-year veteran in general, restorative and sleep dentistry. He teaches, speaks and writes extensively on temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), and is a board member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. A graduate of The Ohio State University College of Dentistry, he later served as Clinical Professor in the OSU Department of Restorative Dentistry, Clinical Instructor in the Advanced General Dentistry Program at Case Western Reserve University School of Dentistry, and serves as an Affiliate with The Ohio State University Medical Center Sleep Medicine Fellowship Program.

One of 160 members of the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry, Dr. Metz has long focused his practice on complex reconstructions, advanced continuing education, and presenting programs and lectures worldwide on restorative dentistry and TMJ. Through practical knowledge gained from years of TMJ practice, and with advances in dental/medical research, the connection between sleep-disordered breathing and TMJ was established. When it became evident that TMJ is part of a sleep-disordered breathing continuum, his practice evolved to include treatment of OSA. Today, 40% of his practice is devoted to patients with sleep-disordered breathing, which also allows for more complete treatment of his restorative patients’ dentistry. Dr. Metz’s mission is to educate and treat patients early in the continuum, hopefully avoiding the development of systemic diseases that are comorbid with OSA.

Mickey Harrison, D.D.S.

General Dentist

Dr. Mickey Harrison is a 13-year practitioner in general dentistry. A graduate of Northwestern University and The Ohio State University College of Dentistry, Dr. Harrison provides a full range of services, including prosthodontics, preventive care, and operative dentistry.

Always taking a “whole person” approach to patient care, he found himself particularly attuned to the links between oral conditions and systemic pathologies. Several years ago, he heard Dr. Metz speak at a study club, and felt he would blend well with Dr. Metz’s mission to help TMJ and OSA patients. An ongoing dialogue was sparked, culminating in his joining The Metz Center in 2013.
